This morning as I was reading in the book of Hebrews, I got an anointed “blast” concerning leadership. In the times we live in, leadership is more important than ever before. Kingdom people must lead the way in influence and example. For that to happen, those who are leaders within the ranks of the Kingdom of God are to take the mantle of responsibility all the more seriously.

Hebrews 12:15 says, “See to it…” There’s no wiggling out of that one! That’s a strong directive suggesting accountability and answer-ability for fulfilling it or not. The instructions that follow are extremely important to the well-being of both the individual and our collective assignment. Therefore a leader watches over those they are called to empower, making sure that the following directives are established in their lives. With that in mind, we are to…

See to it that:

  • No one comes short of the grace of God. Wow! The command has been issued to live by grace. We are to live in the freedom and empowerment of heavenly ability, letting all legalism and performance-orientation be forever put away.
  • No root of bitterness springing up causes trouble and defiles many. Bitterness is poison that produces angry rants, personal alienation, and stunting of divine purpose.
  • There would be no immoral or godless person (Esau being the prime example) who sold his birthright for a meal. Here, the person that disregards their spiritual inheritance is labelled “immoral” and “godless.” Ouch! Heaven places high value on our value. We have inherited everything in Christ and that should fire us up to activate all we have received. The person who would sell their birthright is someone who would trade the things of value for a life of trivial amusement, seemingly devoid of insight into what they are throwing away. Leaders will cultivate a sense of high value in those they influence.

Let the words, “See to it…” saturate your heart as you respond to the call of heaven.
